Marvel yourself with the geological formations of the salt mountain range, with its crystallized salt rocks, with breathtaking views of the Moon Valley, the Andes mountain range, the Domeyko mountain range and the great basin of the Atacama salt flat. Route: 1. Pick up at your hotel. 2. During the morning or in the afternoon, we'll go to the entrance of Moon Valley, which belongs to Los Flamencos National Reserve, just 6 km (4 mi) west of San Pedro de Atacama. 3. We'll see the Amphitheater, the Great Dune and we'll go to the end of the national reserve to see a natural sculpture called "Las Tres Marías" (The three Maries). 4. On the way back we'll park the vehicle to take a light walk (10 to 15 minutes) to reach the viewpoint of the Great Dune and see the entire Moon Valley from above. 5. We'll walk back to the vehicle to go to another viewpoint, but this time over the great basin of the Atacama salt flat with an open view of 100 km (65 mi). 6. Return to your hotel. Maximum altitude: 2500 mt (8000 ft) above sea level. Duration: 3.5 hours. Total distance: 40 km (24 mi). Hours: Morning 9:00 AM to 12:30 PM and Afternoon 3:00 PM to 6:30 PM (winter) or 4:00 PM to 7:30 PM (summer) Includes: Entrance fee, professional guide, private transportation.
